About Us

Casey MacNiven (Owner) Photo Credit: Kelly Miranda Photography

Casey and Kelly MacNiven first crossed paths at Fort Lewis College in 2005 and got married while still students. After spending a few years in Austin, they returned to Durango in 2013 when Kelly’s health took a serious downturn due to postpartum depression following the birth of their son, Carter. They temporarily moved in with Kelly’s parents, while Casey juggled four jobs—working for a window cleaning company, bartending, repairing bikes, and coaching mountain biking. Despite their hard work, months passed without them being able to save enough to secure their own place.

Everything came to a head when Casey was laid off from his window cleaning job on the same day Kelly’s car broke down. With no funds to fix it, Casey resorted to driving the car around town, constantly refilling it with coolant just to keep it going, hoping to eventually trade it for something that would run.

“I was offered just one deal—an old, beat-up truck with ladder racks. I had no other option. The guy threw in $500 to sweeten the deal, so I bought a 32-foot ladder and began knocking on doors, trying to drum up window cleaning jobs. That’s how Squeegee Monkey was born. Everything in our lives seemed to be falling apart, but in reality, it was just a moment of re-alignment. Now, we have multiple trucks, employees, and nearly 1,000 customers.”

“Our focus has always been on listening to our customers and meeting their needs, which has led to a steady stream of referrals. Our goal is uncompromising quality.”

Today, Kelly and Carter are both thriving. Kelly has fully regained her health and now runs her own photography business in Durango (Kelly Miranda Photography.)

Marybeth was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and spent her early years surrounded by extended family in the Midwest. At five, her family moved to Meridian, Idaho, where she discovered a love for the outdoors, particularly skiing and camping.

At 14, another move took her to Middlesex, Vermont, where she embraced ski racing and took her first job as a tour guide at Ben & Jerry’s. High school was a time of self-discovery and adventure.

After graduation, she spent summers sailing and working on the Schooner Heritage in Maine while attending the University of Vermont, where she studied Psychology and Biology. During college, she hiked the 270-mile Long Trail in Vermont, a transformative experience that deepened her passion for outdoor recreation and its healing power.

Her journey led her to Lander, Wyoming, in 2016, where she pursued Outdoor Education at Central Wyoming College. She completed a semester with NOLS in 2017, forging connections that eventually brought her to Durango, Colorado. By early 2018, she became a raft guide for Mild 2 Wild, leading trips across the Southwest.

After two seasons, she sought stability, joining Squeegee Monkey in 2019. A skiing injury in 2021 paused her career, leading her to work at 4 Corners Riversports before returning to Squeegee Monkey as the “Screen Queen” in 2022.

Beyond work, Marybeth thrives in the outdoors—skiing, hiking, camping, rafting, and dancing barefoot to live music.
